Update 5
Gosh. This is all so interesting.
I've never done anything like this before. Sure, I've done some some unusual stuff, and written about it for family and friends, but never so publicly, and never whilst trying to raise money for a cause; so nearly everything about doing this is new, and interesting. Whether it's how my mind and my body is reacting (at this age) or how people respond when exposed to me - perhaps in one of my promotional tees, or when chatting - it's interesting. As is trying to get around the mechanics of writing and editing these pages!
I think I've always been something of a thinker, so trying to rationalise all these elements makes it even more interesting.
Sometimes I'm amazed: like when I find I can still walk after an exercise class or after the second back-to-back day of 15 km walks, or when someone I have never, or only just, met donates. Or like when I'm wearing a promotional tee (for a 'Heartsmart' walk or a class) and someone asks me what it's about - to then tell me that they have a relative with kidney disease. Or even, in one case, that they, too, are a donor. That's pretty amazing - and humbling.
Of course, not everyone approves. A dog walker I had often chatted with suggested my recipient's illness was a divine retribution. I was amazed, and hoped she might somehow be joking, but it became clear that she wasn't. Further discussion was pointless and I now avoid anything more than a polite (but begrudging) ' Hello' whenever our paths cross on my dog-walking route. Interesting.
In a weird way, given that everything 'is what it is', I'm actually really enjoying the 'interesting-ness' of this whole experience. It makes you think.
